Barbara Seidenath is a jeweler and educator based in Providence, RI. Educated in Germany, she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Professor Hermann Jünger earning an MFA in Jewelry, before relocating to the US in 1990.

She currently holds a position as Associate Professor in the Jewelry and Metals Department at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, MA, where she works alongside her colleague Heather White, teaching jewelry design and fabrication courses. For 26 years, Barbara has also been a member of the Adjunct faculty team in the Jewelry Department at Rhode Island School of Design in Providence.

Sharing her knowledge with students has been her passion, especially introducing young designers and makers to the rich history of our field in a unique course that she developed, titled ‘History of Adornment’. What continues to fascinate Barbara about jewelry is its ability to communicate a great range of values, such as for example, cultural, social and sentimental.

An equally important part of her career is her artistic work in her studio, located in Pawtucket, RI where she creates both one-of a kind pieces and small-scale collections. Throughout her career her deep interest and focus in the studio has been enameling. She also loves working with clients, giving beloved heirlooms a new life and designing new pieces for them.

Her work has been published in Metalsmith Magazine and you can find her pieces in the collection of Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, the Los Angeles County Museum in LA and the Enamel Arts Foundation in Los Angeles, CA.
